Summary

Honestly, all these scenes did for me was make me hate him from the outset, I was so peeved。But I will say it's talented writing that by the end, I was rooting for the couple (even if John's actions and words to Belle gave me whiplash with how quickly he changed his stances and mind about things)。Lastly, I'll add that I'm getting tired of the frequent and subtle fatphobic comments sprinkled throughout her stories。 It's so annoying。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Not one of JQ’s best, but the wit and some of the historical research is here。 Could do without some of the ridiculous others complained about - e。g, did she really need to run off after an argument while someone was out to kill/kidnap her? Nonetheless, absolutely loved the weaving of poetry and dancing in the book。

This book made me angry。 I absolutely loved every single one of the characters。 I also loved the story idea of the wounded war hero and the sunny-spirited blue stocking who healed his heart。 BUT…The writing felt choppy and not at all up to Julia Quinn’s usual level。 The hero seemed a bit bipolar in his reactions to the heroine。 The heroine was staying with a Duke, whose butler seemed to play all of the servant roles, from opening the door to answering a bell and serving tea, despite the fact tha This book made me angry。 I absolutely loved every single one of the characters。 I also loved the story idea of the wounded war hero and the sunny-spirited blue stocking who healed his heart。 BUT…The writing felt choppy and not at all up to Julia Quinn’s usual level。 The hero seemed a bit bipolar in his reactions to the heroine。 The heroine was staying with a Duke, whose butler seemed to play all of the servant roles, from opening the door to answering a bell and serving tea, despite the fact that the household apparently has almost 100 servants present。 Additionally, I liked the chaperone who didn’t do the best job, but every secondary character actually encouraged impropriety at every turn。 These characters deserved better。 。。。more

GooodGreat story funny full of mischief amongst cousins Belle and Emma。 Belle accidently go on her cousin neighbor land。 Attractive funny amd at times rude she falls for war hero John whom recently became a baron。 With scars inside and out from war he battles his feeling for Belle。

This book was okay…lots of romance books could be filed under “the man just needs to go to therapy” and this one is at the top of that category。 The thing with this series is that the characters are all fun/interesting but the stories (so far) are stretched out longer than they need to be。

Very sweet book

In Dancing at Midnight we finally get Bella the intellectuals story。 In the previous book she is described as a blue stocking who is so beautiful and smart that she has received multiple offers of marriages, but no one quite fits the bill。 When she meets Lord Blackwood and they strike up an unlikely friendship I swooned over how perfect he was for her。 As a couple they are a perfect match, no complaints there。 But in a attempt to make third act drama Julia Quinn backtracks and makes Bella into o In Dancing at Midnight we finally get Bella the intellectuals story。 In the previous book she is described as a blue stocking who is so beautiful and smart that she has received multiple offers of marriages, but no one quite fits the bill。 When she meets Lord Blackwood and they strike up an unlikely friendship I swooned over how perfect he was for her。 As a couple they are a perfect match, no complaints there。 But in a attempt to make third act drama Julia Quinn backtracks and makes Bella into one of the biggest ninnies in the entire Julia Quinn universe。 Knowing there's a madman out to kill her she still decides to leave her home in a huff (accompanied only by her ladies maid) to a wooded area near her house。 Since she's half-blind she proceeds to hurt herself and ends up having to sit in the freezing cold rain while her maid goes to get help。 Of course she gets a very deadly fever and she needs to be nursed back to health by her husband。 Honestly, I cannot stand the smart girl does something stupid trope and it made a 4⭐ read into a 3⭐almost immediately。 。。。more

One of her weaker novelsPlot was weak- man so obsessed with guilt over nothing that he felt he couldn’t marry。 Threatened by obvious person but couldn’t figure it out。 Disappointing。

Very fun read。Loved the flawed hero and blue stocking heroine。 My only complaint is that it shouldn't have taken John so long to figure out who his enemy was。 Very fun read。Loved the flawed hero and blue stocking heroine。 My only complaint is that it shouldn't have taken John so long to figure out who his enemy was。 。。。more

Not one of my favorite Quinn books。 I have read this one the slowest of all her books so far。 I didn't really like the characters and I felt the main character John was all over the place。 You couldn't really get to know him since he seemed very up and down。 He would be kind one moment, but change his mood in a second and be either angry or possessive, etc。 I didn't find Belle to be that strong of a female character either。 It wasn't my favorite plot line and honestly the storytelling seemed off Not one of my favorite Quinn books。 I have read this one the slowest of all her books so far。 I didn't really like the characters and I felt the main character John was all over the place。 You couldn't really get to know him since he seemed very up and down。 He would be kind one moment, but change his mood in a second and be either angry or possessive, etc。 I didn't find Belle to be that strong of a female character either。 It wasn't my favorite plot line and honestly the storytelling seemed off to me in this one。 Moving on to the last book in this trilogy, which should be interesting since the main character only was in bits and pieces in the first two books。 。。。more

It is a romantic story, good to relax, Belle overreacts, many times。 Besides, there is an inglorious attempt to keep Spencer´s identity in suspense, that it was all so obvious。 However, despite the cons, the story has its merits。 After all, this is Julia Quinn, so we also have passionate secondary characters, witty dialogues, amusing situations, well-balanced eroticism and, of course, a happy ending。
